The ‘mini-rad 1000’ is a compact and, dare we say, a super cute compact portable dose/survey meter. It was designed for general monitoring, contamination control and is sensitive enough to detect normal background radiation.

Mini Instruments Limited in the UK made it, and it's a spin-off from the hugely successful Mini Monitor 900 series, but a lot smaller. The detector, a compensated Geiger Müller tube, is built-in and sensitive to Gamma radiation and X-Rays.
 

In common with its bigger brothers accuracy and ease of use are key features. It has a single function control knob and the logarithmically scaled meter - another classic Mini Instruments feature - reads from 0 to 1000 µSv/h (-1). There is an audible clicker, a user-settable alarm function and a battery check indication. It is housed in a sturdy, lightweight and weatherproof case with an integral carry handle. Power comes from a single 9-volt PP3 type battery, which lives in a compartment on the underside of the case and should keep it running for several months with normal use. This instrument is in excellent condition with no significant signs of use. It is in good working order and calibration has been checked alongside a reference instrument and comes complete with its original custom fitted carry case with leather shoulder strap. (Sorry, we have no manuals for this model but if anyone has one we would be very interested in obtaining a copy).
