The ‘mini-rad 1000 RA’ is a rare, much sought after, compact and, dare we say, a super cute portable dose/survey meter. It's a popular alternative to the classic Mini 900 with a 'D' Type probe. Designed for general monitoring and contamination control, but also sensitive enough to detect normal background radiation.

Mini Instruments in the UK made it, and it's a spin-off from the hugely successful Mini Monitor 900 series, but a lot smaller. The detector, a compensated Geiger Müller tube, is built-in and sensitive to Gamma and X-Ray radiation. 

In common with its bigger brothers accuracy and ease of use are key features. It has a single function control knob and the semi-logarithmically scaled meter - another classic Mini Instruments feature - reads from 0 to 1000 μSv/h ^-1. The meter also has a supplemental Transport Index (TI) scale (measured at 1 metre from the container). Other features include an audible 'event' clicker, a user-settable alarm function and a battery check indication. It is housed in a sturdy, lightweight and weatherproof case with an integral carry handle. Power comes from a single 9-volt PP3 type battery, which lives in a compartment on the underside of the case and should keep it running for several months with normal use.

We have only a very limited stock of the RA variant. All instruments are second-user, thoroughly cleaned and refurbished to a very high standard. Overall they are in excellent condition with only very minor signs of their previous lives. Needless to say they are in good working order and the ratemeter calibration has been checked and where necessary adjusted in accordance with manufacturer's protocols. We supply a Calibration Check Certificate plus a copy of the owner's manual, which contains detailed performance and operational data, and a circuit diagram.

Feeling protective? We have custom carry cases for the Mini-Rad 1000, to keep them safe from the elements and the inevitable knocks and bumps of a busy deployment. The first is an original factory-issue custom fitted carry case with leather shoulder strap. Sadly our stocks are severely limited but for the record they are also in almost as-new condition and cost £35.00 when ordered with a Mini-Rad-1000, or £40 if you wish to buy one separately (email for details). The second one is a custom-fitted waterproof ABS hard carry case. It has a pressure relief valve, foldable handle and holes for a padlock, for extra security.
